Lazdijai museum for freedom fight. Designer Skirmante Vaitkeviciute
Freedom is not a given - it is our daily duty to make it meaningful through our work, faith and focus. The struggle for freedom is not a concept of the past...
The Freedom Struggle Museum must not only tell how our fathers and grandfathers defended the freedom of Lithuania, but also raise questions: "What about me? What is my duty?”
To reveal this idea, an aged mirror was chosen, where you can see photos of people from the past, their letters, documents, and your own image. The mirror transforms the space, making it unrecognizable, changing - images change depending on the viewing angle. The visitor, looking at the stories told, constantly sees himself as a participant in this story. People from the past (the inner side of the mirror) seem to ask the visitor - "how would you behave?"
Asymmetrical, irregular shapes of furniture and planes are used to intensify the feeling of struggle, destruction, and tension. Aged metal and rough concrete are combined with the mirror.
